They’ve always been an integral part of social media, and always will be.
Since we evolved from caveman to modern day human, there has always been an attempt to transmit cultural information and ideas. Modern day folklore is just… memes.
Nowadays, there is a little more complexity behind it thanks to the creation of law and intellectual property.

Here are some things to look out for when meme-ing for your business.
Pics of Celebrities
Just don’t do it unless you understand the possibility of being sued for using their name, image, or likeness.
Meme Templates
Dude with a sign is owned by F Jerry LLC (Jerry Media). They own the rights and likeness of dude with a sign. They have sued many companies for using this meme format.
I really hope they don’t find me.
I’m sure there are many more meme templates owned by someone. So, better be safe and not use them.
Trending Audio
Copyrighted audio is not available to business accounts on Meta and Google owned social platforms for a reason.
AI
This one is being discussed amongst the creators of AI software, its users, and law experts.
In the meantime while it gets figured out, I just won’t be using AI generated images.
